The URI Transportation Center was established in 1999 at the
University of Rhode Island
to conduct multidisciplinary education,
research, technology transfer and outreach
for surface transportation systems and advanced transportation
infrastructure.
To advance U.S technology and expertise
in the many disciplines composing transportation through the
mechanisms of education, research
and technology transfer at a university-based center of excellence.
Public transit reduces auto fuel consumption by approximately 1.5 billion gallons annually, lowering the nation's trade deficit and reducing dependence on foreign oil.

The administrative offices of the URI Transportation are
located in the Carlotti building on the University of Rhode Island
Kingston Campus.
